RSA Conference, San Francisco, February 28, 2012 - Cyberoam, a division of Elitecore Technologies, has launched the Web Application Firewall (WAF) feature in its UTM appliance range, adding a strong layer of protection to corporate websites and web-based applications which are becoming a frequent and favorite target of hackers.

The best-of-breed solution has been designed for SMEs and enterprises upgrading their firewall/UTM and existing Cyberoam UTM customers who can enjoy WAF security at a fraction of cost of existing WAF products. The solution is powered with an intuitive Website flow Detector that can “self-learn” the legitimate behavior and response of web applications, repelling a wide variety of hand-crafted and open source automated attacks.

Says Abhilash Sonwane, Sr. VP, Product Management, Cyberoam, “Our WAF offering is a good example of Cyberoam’s extensible security architecture which gives truly unified security by reacting to new security requirements in the ever-changing threat scenario. We brought this low cost offering since we noticed many corporations, especially the SME’s tend to overlook Web Application Security, especially due to high costs until a major security incident happens. Our solution also supports the compliance regime in different countries.

With advanced threat detection capabilities, Cyberoam’s Web Application Firewall interfaces between the Web server and client, scanning all incoming and outgoing data packets to mitigate any potential risk due to applications. It includes features such as SSL offloading for HTTPS traffic, Positive protection model without Signature Tables, URL whitelisting and comprehensive business logic protection against OWASP Top 10 web attacks like SQL injection, XSS, CSRF, and cookie-poisoning.

According to TechNavio, the market for web application firewalls is forecasted to reach USD 437.6 million in 2013, showing a CAGR of 24.6% over the period from 2009. The market can grow faster if current barriers to implementation/purchase are removed; in this light, Cyberoam’s WAF launch is a step in the right direction.

Enterprise verticals that have web application firewalls as a critical business requirement include retail, e-commerce, BFSI, large hosting services providers, IT organizations, telecom, healthcare, government and manufacturing.
